6 Fun Ways to Plan a Holi Theme Baby Photoshoot

Your baby may be too young to have gulal smeared on his cheeks, but that doesn’t mean they should get left out of all the holiday fun. You can always plan a baby photoshoot instead to mark the occasion. A photograph of your tiny baby with a pitchkari bigger than him is a beautiful way to capture memories of your child’s first Holi. As with a Holi celebration, a Holi theme baby photoshoot should be full of colour and fun. Here are a few ideas to try out.

1. H-O-L-I spell it out

This one is a great idea for a newborn photoshoot! In its essence, it is the baby in a basket pose. Prep a round cane basket with a cushion and a soft blanket. Wrap your baby in a swaddle cloth and lay him/her on the cushioned basket. Now, imagine this basket to be the alphabet ‘O’ in ‘HOLI’. In keeping with the theme, use Holi colours to write the “H” before the basket and the “L” and “I” after the basket to complete the word. Alternatively, you can use colourful swatches of fabric to create the letters. Now, all that’s left to do is click an overhead shot.

2. The Holi romper

When you’ve got a baby at home, you’ve got a romper for every occasion. For Holi, you can get a white romper with the phrase, “My first Holi” on it. If you’re designing the romper yourself, use a different colour for every alphabet. Since the romper is white, make sure you use a vibrant, colourful backdrop. 4. Fun with balloons

Blow up a few balloons in different colours and let your baby crawl around them. To minimise the risk of having the balloons burst during the photoshoot, blow them up to only about half their capacity. This also keeps the colours looking brighter. 5. Handprints of colour

Holi colours are traditionally applied by hand. As the day draws to an end, you probably find your hands packed with colour. Anything you touch will automatically have colour transferred to it. Transfer this idea to your photoshoot. Use a white sheet as the base. Now dip your hands in paint and press them onto the sheet to create handprints. Dress your baby up in something colourful too, and let them lie down or crawl around the sheet as you click a few fun photographs.

Better still, make a batch of homemade colours. All you need to do is mix food colours with flour to create powder colours.
